How to Choose a Home Stager

Wednesday :: Jun 23, 2010

Choosing a home stager isn’t all that hard. Here are a few tips to make sure you’ve got the right person for the job.

1. Ask to see their portfolio. It’s important to actually view the work a home stager has done to see their style and how professional the finished product is. By looking at the before and after photos you can get an idea of the kind of change to expect in the new look of your property.
2. Make sure they have liability insurance. A lot of work and organization goes into home staging. By checking for liability insurance, both you and the home stager are covered, leaving you feeling more assured of the quality of work.
3. Ask for references. This is a commonly neglected step when hiring people from many different professions. Sometimes we feel like it’s too intrusive, but by asking for feedback and getting past clients’ opinions about the job and the home stager, you will get a better idea as to how well you will work together. It will make the whole process easier in the long run.
4. You get what you pay for. That is usually true in any profession. Everyone wants to be budget conscious…even your home stager! But remember that it’s worth it to find a quality, experienced home stager. With this experience comes wisdom, meaning you will get a professional who can do the job efficiently, move you out of your house quickly, and sell it for top dollar.
